TOOLS FOR BUILDING PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY IN TEAMS

NOT ONLY TO SURVIVE BUT ALSO THRIVE

"The importance of psychological safety cannot be overstated. It is the factor that separates teams that are just trying to survive from those that truly thrive." – Prof. A. Edmondson

Modern leaders often balance the challenges of achieving ambitious goals, developing team relationships, and managing health risks. Discoveries in both neuroscience and management offer solutions for reaching professional heights without sacrificing relationships or health. This training program is an opportunity to discover tools that enable you to reach professional peaks while maintaining good health and strengthening your personal and team psychological safety.

WHO IS THIS PROGRAM FOR?

This program is intended for both new and experienced leaders seeking solutions in the following areas:

• How to balance ambitious goals, well-being, and avoid burnout?

 • How to strengthen trust, openness, and collaboration among team members?

• How to reduce employee inertia and increase team members' engagement, initiative, and responsibility?

• How to encourage more innovative solutions and neutralize team members' fears around discussing mistakes and failures?

DETAILED PROGRAM

MODULE 1 – LEADER'S PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY

The program is grounded in the neuroscience of S. Porges' Polyvagal Theory and the methods of the Polyvagal Institute.
Date: 9th April, 09:00–13:00. Online group

"Psychological safety is more than our way of thinking, beliefs, or intentions. It is a physiological process in which, by recognizing threat signals, we can help ourselves and others better adapt by regulating our physiological response, even in the face of chaos, conflict, or uncertain circumstances." – Michael Allison, business and sports coach, partner of the Polyvagal Institute

Neuroscientist S. Porges, in his revolutionary Polyvagal Theory, states that we can reach peak performance states while maintaining good well-being if we experience psychological safety. Psychological safety is the foundation of the body's homeostasis, well-being, and efficiency, and it lies within our physiology, in our nervous system.

In this experiential module, training participants will learn how, through short neuro-practices (such as breathing exercises, grounding practices, and more), leaders can take care of their psychological safety, balance the functioning of their nervous system, and regain control of their physiology during high-stress moments.

The training program, based on the latest neuroscience discoveries, covers the following topics:

• How do biological and physiological processes affect psychology – thoughts, emotions, and actions?
• What physiological and psychological signs indicate a lack of psychological safety?
• What practices and exercises help strengthen personal psychological safety?
• How to transition from defensive behavior zones (fight, flight, freeze) to acting from safety and play zones?
• How does synchronization and co-regulation occur within a team? What is the leader's role in this, and what tools can positively influence the team?
• How can a leader help team members feel safe even in high-stress conversations?

MODULE 2 – PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY IN TEAMS

The program is grounded in „Leaders‘ Toolkit“ methodology by A.Edmondson

Date: 16th April, 09:00–13:00. Online group

"Psychological safety is not about being nice to others or lowering performance standards. It’s about open feedback, openly acknowledging mistakes, and learning from them." – Prof. A. Edmondson

In this experiential module, we will discuss where to begin in creating a team’s psychological safety, which leads to better collaboration, innovation, and improved team performance. During the training, participants will learn how to build psychological safety within their teams, based on the "Leader’s Toolkit" methodology developed by A. Edmondson.

The program includes the following topics:

• Proper preparation for dialogue – aligning agreements, expectations, and perspectives on failures within the team.
• Inviting active participation – embracing vulnerability, the leader’s readiness to ask the right questions.
• Productive response – expressing gratitude, destigmatizing failure, methods for addressing violations.

In this module, participants will have the opportunity to practice three leadership techniques that help increase psychological safety:

• Changing the perspective on failure.
• Openness in discussions and asking the right questions.
• Ending discussions with appropriately expressed gratitude.
